Support for Water Stewardship Programs in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.
RBC Blue Water Project
The RBC Blue Water Project, an initiative of the Royal Bank of Canada, will provide $50 million in grants over ten years to support programs that foster a culture of water stewardship in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and the United Kingdom. The initiative’s specific grantmaking priorities are Watershed Protection and Access to Safe Drinking Water. Applications are currently being accepted for Leadership Grants, ranging from $25,000 to $500,000, that support local, regional, national, and trans-border organizations for projects that address the initiative’s priorities. The application deadline is June 30, 2008. Community Action Grants, smaller awards which focus on local programs, will be accepted throughout the year beginning in June 2008. Grants Address Drug Policy Reform Issues
Drug Policy Alliance Advocacy Grants Program
Drug Policy Alliance works to broaden the public debate on drug policy and to promote realistic alternatives to the war on drugs based on science, health, and human rights. The Drug Policy Alliance Advocacy Grants Program promotes drug policy reform at the local, state, and national levels by funding smaller, geographically limited, or single-issue projects. The program provides support through the following two components: Promoting Policy Change grants of up to $50,000 support organizations working to advance drug policy through advocacy, grassroots organizing, and education, with emphasis on state-based activity. The application deadline is June 16, 2008. Rapid Response/Special Opportunities grants support time-sensitive projects intended to respond to opportunities to block drug war initiatives or advance drug policy reform. Awards Empower Women in the U.S.
Avon Hello Tomorrow Fund
The goal of the Avon Hello Tomorrow Fund, an initiative of Avon Products, Inc., is to help strengthen the position of women and girls in society. The Fund provides individuals in the United States with cash awards that will allow them to pursue a project that targets the needs of women in the United States. Each week the Fund will offer one $5,000 award to an individual who has submitted a compelling application that both advances the interests of women and ultimately improves society. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and legal residents of the United States or its territories. Men are also eligible to apply as long as the program benefits women. Support for Affordable Housing Projects in the U.S. and Canada
Home Depot Housing Impact Grants Program
The Home Depot Housing Impact Grants Program supports affordable housing projects in the U.S. and Canada built or preserved with environmentally friendly, efficient, and durable materials that increase energy and water efficiency, improve indoor air quality, and reduce maintenance costs. Grants range between $500 and $3,000. Preference will be given to requests that engage community stakeholders and result in building or rebuilding houses and/or apartments that are affordable for individuals/families earning a modest income. Implementation Funds for the Wildlife Refuge Conservation Education Program
National Fish and Wildlife Foundation: The Nature of Learning Grant Program
The Nature of Learning Grant Program, an initiative of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, supports costs associated with implementing The Nature of Learning, a conservation education program that uses National Wildlife Refuges as outdoor classrooms in order to promote a greater understanding of local conservation issues. Start-Up grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded on a competitive basis to support initial expenses associated with new programs. Follow-Up grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded to provide continued support to existing The Nature of Learning Programs. Funded programs must involve a partnership among a local school(s), community group (e.g., Refuge Support Group), and National Wildlife Refuge. Online applications must be submitted by June 16, 2008. Grants Enhance Pacific Northwest Communities
The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation
The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation supports nonprofit organizations that strengthen communities in the Pacific Northwest, including Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. The Foundation accepts proposals in the following three program areas: The Arts and Culture Program supports a wide range of cultural projects that span the visual, performing, new media, and literary arts. The Youth Engagement Program encourages efforts to promote early reading proficiency, expand opportunities for experiential learning, and involve young people in addressing community needs. The Community Development and Social Change Program seeks to improve long-term social, health, and economic outcomes for individuals and families by increasing access to resources such as healthcare, housing, employment, nutrition, and other basic needs. Description: The WHO Foundation: Women Helping Others® nationally supports
grass-roots charities serving the overlooked needs of women and children.
Grants are provided to organizations serving women and/or children in the
United States and Puerto Rico. Specific projects and programs addressing
health and social service needs are our priority. The Foundation recognizes
the value of new programs created to respond to changing needs and will
consider funding projects of an original or pioneering nature within an
existing organization.

Eligibility: In order to qualify for funding, an organization must have
501(c)(3) non-profit status through the U.S. Internal Revenue Service and
be qualified to receive deductible charitable contributions. Organizations
must have been incorporated for a minimum of three years prior to
application. If you have received a WHO Foundation grant in the past,
please wait three years before applying again. Preference will be given to
organizations with an operating budget of $3 million or less, those not
dependent upon government grants, and those with greater organizational
program costs than personnel costs.

Rural Housing and Economic Development Program

e. Demolition of property to permit construction or rehabilitation activities to occur;

h. Conducting conferences or meetings with other federal or state agencies, tribes, tribally designated housing entities (TDHE), or national or regional housing organizations, to inform residents of programs, rights, and responsibilities associated with homebuying opportunities.

i.Establishing Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs), lines of credit, revolving loan funds, croenterprises, and small business incubators; and

j. Provision of direct financial assistance to homeowners/businesses/ developers, etc. This can be in the form of default reserves, pooling/ securitization mechanisms, loans, grants, the funding of existing individual development accounts, or similar activities.

Description: The aim of these grants is to get one million inactive girls
to participate in physical activity and keep another one million
currently active girls from dropping out of physical activity. The awards
program is designed to inspire teams to help fight the disturbing
physical and psychological health risks affecting America's youth. Having
fun with fitness is a key element to getting girls physically
active. Teams must lead their own team project that will get girls in
their communities physically active and submit a detailed essay telling
us about the project. A total of $50,000 in grants will be awarded in
recognition of the outstanding efforts of 20 teams throughout the country.

Farmers Market Promotion Program

The Farmers Market Promotion Program (FMPP) was created through a recent amendment of the Farmer-to-Consumer Direct Marketing Act of 1976.  The grants, authorized by the FMPP, are targeted to help improve and expand domestic farmers markets, roadside stands, community-supported agriculture programs and other direct producer-to-consumer market opportunities.  Approximately $1 million is allocated for Fiscal Year 2008
for the FMPP, with the requirement that the maximum amount awarded for any one proposal cannot exceed $75,000.  Entities eligible to apply include
agricultural cooperatives, local governments, nonprofit corporations, public health corporations, economic development corporations, regional
farmers market authorities and Tribal government.

The primary mission of the Tony Hawk Foundation is to promote high-quality, public skateparks in low-income areas throughout the United States. Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY)

Basic Center Program

The Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) is accepting applications for the Basic Center Program (BCP), which is authorized by the Runaway and Homeless Act to address runaway and homeless youth (RHY) problems. BCPs provide an alternative for runaway and homeless youth who might otherwise end up with law enforcement or in the child welfare, mental
health, or juvenile justice systems.  Each BCP must provide runaway and homeless youth with a safe and appropriate shelter, individual, family, and group counseling as appropriate, and aftercare.

Purpose: The purpose of this grant is to establish proposed or strengthen existing community-based BCPs that provide temporary emergency shelter and care to RHY.  BCPs provide shelter and support services that assist youth in crisis, reunite youth with their families (as appropriate), strengthen family relationships, and help youth transition to safe and appropriate alternative living arrangements where they can become independent,self-sufficient, contributing members of society.

Rural Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault and

Purpose: The primary purpose of the Rural Program is to enhance the safety
of child, youth and adult victims of domestic violence, dating violence,

Rural Program challenges victim advocates, law enforcement officers,

Even Start Family Literacy program Women's Prison grant

The Even Start Family Literacy program Women's Prison grant is
designed to help break the cycle of poverty and illiteracy and improve the
educational opportunities of low-income families with mothers in prison by
integrating early childhood education, adult literacy or adult basic
education, and parenting education into a unified, high-quality, family
literacy program. This project, which must be located in a prison that
houses women and their preschool-age children, will serve women inmates and
their children, birth through age seven.

A primary feature of each AFI project is that project participants are given access to special matched savings accounts called Individual Development Accounts (IDA), in which participants save earned
income for the purchase of a home, for business capitalization, or to attend higher education or training.

contracts. www.USASpending.gov  OMB has received

PRESERVATION GRANTS AVAILABLE FROM HISTORICAL SOCIETY

 Communities across the state can apply for $65,000 from the Montana Historical Society's State Historic Preservation Office under
the Montana Heritage Heritage Education and Training Initiative, Society spokesperson Rolene Schliesman said.
        Designated Preserve America Communities, Tribal Historic Preservation Offices, and communities who have officially submitted
their Preserve America designation applications are eligible for grants up to $15,000 to use cultural resources to improve local economies.
        Each community and tribe can apply for a minimum of $3,000 up to $15,000. All grants must be matched one for one with cash or in-kind
services, and multiple projects not exceeding $15,000 can be submitted, she said. This is the second such grant the Society has received and
made available across the state.
        Qualifying communities can also apply for up to $500 for staff or volunteers to attend heritage tourism or preservation-related
training programs.
        Eligible applicants are encouraged to combine their education and training efforts with other eligible applicants, she said.  
        Individuals or groups with ideas for how to better use heritage resources for economic development can contact their local governments
to get involved in the process.
        Local projects can include such things as community training in local history and heritage resources for educators or employees in
tourism-related business, training volunteers as guides for historic sites and downtown tours, or Native American historic preservation
conferences, Schliesman said. "We are especially looking for projects that can be copied in other communities to promote preservation and cultural tourism."

The Montana Team Nutrition Program is sponsoring a Healthy School Challenge Peer Education Mini-Grant program to school staff receiving
professional development in the following areas:

Twenty $300 mini-grants will be distributed to support school staff in learning from their peers by visiting and observing operations at

The mini-grants can also support peer education on the management of school nutrition programs (i.e., school breakfast, afterschool snacks,

Love Your Veggies Nationwide School Lunch Campaign

 Love your Veggies is in its second year of awarding grants to elementary schools to help implement the federally mandated local school wellness policies and make sure kids get nutritious food for school lunches and snacks.  Seven grants were awarded the first year, but this year the campaign will award more than a half million dollars to schools by providing $10,000 grants to 51 elementary schools in the United States..
